Continuing Professional Education
Category A - Education
Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits may be claimed for education and training courses in which the certificant was a student. All credits claimed must directly support one or more categories of the certification's Common Body of Knowledge. Activities in this category are reported on the
Category A-D Reporting Form
One activity is reported per form. Activities that can be claimed for credit include:
- Conferences: One CPE credit per hour of actual contact time, excluding breaks, lunches, etc., unless those breaks or lunches are provided by the conference organizer to facilitate interaction and networking. A maximum of 40 hours may be claimed for any one conference.
- Seminars/classes: One CPE credit per hour, using actual contact time, excluding breaks, lunches, etc. Typical commercial courses offer fewer than six hours of instruction per day of attendance.
- Formal college classes: 10 CPE credits for each credit hour earned. Classes must be passed with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or greater. If claiming credit for courses, an official transcript or grade report must be submitted showing achievement of "C" grade or better.
- Graduation/certification: Completing a degree program, or passing a professional certification examination, may be claimed for 10 CPE credits in the year achieved. CPE credits may not be claimed for taking a certification examination, nor for any activities prior to passing that examination, including any certification preparatory courses and workshops.
Examples of activities that might be claimed in this category include:
- Attending the annual QAI International Quality Conference,
- Passing the ASQ Certified Software Quality Engineer examination,
- Taking the Software Quality Engineering class at Embry-Riddle University.
Examples of activities that should NOT be claimed in this category include:
- Attending a technical class not associated directly with software quality knowledge categories,
- Taking, but not passing, a certification examination.
Common reasons why claimed hours are often rejected in this category:
- Course doesn't cover a knowledge category from the CBOK,
- Hours claimed exceed the maximum allowed for item.
