Category B - Publishing
Authoring published articles or books that relate directly to the certification Common Body of Knowledge. They are acceptable if these materials contribute to the professional proficiency of information technology personnel. This category refers to articles, books
and columns written by the certificant and published in a form available to the public. At this time, material available on the World Wide Web is NOT considered published for the purposes of recertification. Activities in this category are reported on the Category A-D Reporting Form
One activity is reported per form.
Examples of activities that might be claimed in this category include:
- Books: Publishing a book where the certificant is listed as author or primary editor. Books may be claimed for 120 CPE credits. The book must cover one or more topics listed in the CBOK for the certification, and that topic must be listed by the publisher among the Library of Congress subject headings included in the publication data for the book.
- Articles: Publishing an article in a journal or magazine related to information technology and the designation's Common Body of Knowledge. Articles may be claimed for 40 CPE credits if the periodical is peer-reviewed, or 20 CPE credits if it is not.
- Regular columns: Publishing a column in a regularly published periodical of at least six (6) editorial column-inches. Each originally published column may be claimed for 4 CPE credits.
Examples of activities that should NOT be claimed in this category include:
- Materials that have been accepted for publication but that have not yet been published.
- Internal publications within the certificant's company or place of work.
- Conference presentations included in conference proceedings.
Common reasons why claimed hours are often rejected in this category:
- Subject of materials is not a component of the designation's Common Body of Knowledge.
- Materials claimed have not been formally published.
- Conference presentation materials should have been claimed under C - Teaching.
