Category C - Teaching

Teaching must relate to certification skill areas as defined in the relevant body of knowledge. The material can be professional association or university/academic classes actually taught by the certificant beyond their normal professional job responsibilities. Professional instructors may not claim CPE hours for classes taught as part of their job responsibilities. Also, in-house training at the certificant's employer is considered part of normal job responsibilities and may not be claimed for CPE credit. When claiming credit for teaching, enclose a description of the class for topic verification, and a description of the circumstances under which the class was offered.

Only formal teaching qualifies for CPE credit. Peer-oriented or study group presentations should not be claimed for CPE credit. Such informal or semiformal group activities, such as helping colleagues prepare for future certification examinations, are considered part of the responsibilities of any working certified professional.
